The NGO Comboni Samaritans of Gulu have had a presence in Gulu since 1988.
Initially their focus was to provide medical and spiritual support for the conflict between the Ugandan Government and the Lord Resistance Army.

The Comboni Samaritans of Gulu have over time expanded their operations: today they is providing support, medication and counseling to sickness, sieropositive and vulnerable people.

Linked to they work in raising HIV awareness, they established a Youth Department in 1994, principally to encourage youth to protect themselves from HIV through specific lifestyle choices. The Comboni Samaritans of Gulu working with Fondazione4Africa to expand the youth department’s goals. A principal focus has been empowering youth through linking them with income generating projects. The CSG therefore provides spiritual, medical and material support for a community that is still feeling the effects from many years of war.

The operational headquarters go CSG comprise a medical center, an administrative office, a craft manufacturing cooperative (the Wawoto Kacel Cooperative Society) and a guest house with a restaurant, a social business.
